Istanbul is counting down for the World’s largest airport!
The official opening of the first phase of the Istanbul New Airport is planned to take place on Oct. 29, the day Türkiye marks its Republic Day.
When the first phase is completed in 2018, it will have the world’s largest terminal under one roof, with a gross floor area of nearly 11 million square feet and the ability to serve 90 million passengers a year. With the completion of all phases, the airport is expected to be the busiest one in the world, with flights to over 350 destinations and, eventually, an annual capacity of 200 million passengers.
“Building on the recent economic success of our airline, 2018 is a highly significant year for the future of Turkish Airlines with the opening of Istanbul new airport in October,” Turkish Airlines Chairman M. Ilker Ayci said.
Calling the new airport as “the new home of Turkish Airlines,” Ayci said that it will allow the airlines for greater capacity and increased network.
