The Eurasia Tunnel Awarded The “BEST Tunnel Project In The World”
The Eurasia Tunnel built with the build-operate-transfer model according to the plan developed by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, to connect the Asian and European sides of the city Istanbul below the sea, was voted “The Best Project in the World” in 2016 in the category of tunnels and bridges by the US Engineering News Record (ENR).
Başar Arıoğlu, Chairman of the Board of ATAS (Company responsible for the construction of the Eurasia Tunnel), spoke at the award ceremony. He stressed that the Eurasian tunnel was a source of pride for Türkiye as well as for global engineering and said that they began a project in İstanbul that catches the eye of the whole world.
Arıoğlu said that the project had been carried out in a complex geological structure and strong seismic activity at a depth of 106 meters with 13.7 meters in diameter and noted that the project had attracted the attention of the world with its durable and safe work.
Stressing that the success of such a project would encourage the construction of various projects of difficult character Arıoğlu said, “A new trend in the field of tunnels will be launched to go deeper, farther and with a larger diameter. That’s why we call the Eurasian tunnel as a project that began a new era in the field of tunnels.”
